Top 5 Blind Bags For Duck Hunters in 2023

Written By: Zach Miller

When it comes to the sport of chasing those elusive birds we revolve a portion of our life to, one can never skip the conversation of gear. On the topic of gear, one cannot skip the discussion of how to get the gear we now have to and from the truck to the blind. A duck hunter must always have a trusty and durable blind bag to stash all of his/her items. An ideal bag should be durable in nature, waterproof/resistant, have multiple pockets and preferably camouflage to blend in with the environment. Be sure to check out the Art of Camouflage article as well in our blog! In this article, I’ll be breaking down my top five picks of the blind bags I have used, currently use and trust to withstand the challenges waterfowl hunting will put on the hunter and his/her equipment.

  1. Dr. Duck Flyway Blind Bag

This pack is my personal favorite blind bag, I still use this today and it has come with me on some extremely risky hunts and it keeps coming back for more. I view this pack as a mini footlocker. As soon as you open it up you are greeted with multiple compartments that you can remove if you so choose to for organization purposes. This bag has a great padded shoulder strap and the front has durable metal rungs to clip your Texas rigging to when your chest deep in the muck. It is waterproof and it is the best blind bag I’ve seen to hit the waterfowl community in recent years.

  1. Filson Camo Sportsman's Dry Bag

Filson has a long time reputation for having “Unfailing Goods” and they stand by it with their policies and lifetime repairs. I always say, there is a reason this company has been around since 1897. You will certainly be paying more here as not much of Filson’s goods are cheap, but in rare fashion these days, you truly get what you pay for. Having a slotted interior design much like the Dr. Duck pack at number 1, Filson downsizes this bag to more of a traditional blind bag that our grandfathers would have used. This bag is fully waterproof and has enough room for the essentials. I love using this bag when I am just going for a morning or evening hunt and don’t need a ton of gear. Beer and Ammo like we would say in the Army.

  1. Rig'Em Right Shell Shocker XLT Floating Blind Bag

This blind bag hits hard for exterior pockets and capabilities overall. Coming in as the bag for the “modern duck hunter” this bag has a ton to work with. You have great organization inside the interior of the main pocket and the bag does indeed float as most do. A cheaper price than most bags as well, this pack is going to turn some heads when you put it in the blind. To give the reader an idea of the pockets, they have one for your water jug and your sunglasses with a felt interior… How about that!

  1. Tanglefree Flight Series Blind Bag

This pick is a really quality pick for me, I always get the feeling that the waterfowl community constantly sleeps on Tanglefree gear and decoys, every product I have used from them is still in my wheelhouse. This blind bag comes in the new Optifade pattern and is just a straightforward simple and durable blind bag. If you enjoy simplicity and durability with a touch of new style, this is the bag for you. This is the traditional open concept main pocket design where you just dump and go, I like using this when I am layout boat hunting because you can fill this sucker with ammo (and some gummy bears) and just run the gun, reach down and boom more ammo.

5. Drake Waterfowl Blind Bag

This is becoming the old-faithful of blind bags, if you grew up in the waterfowl community, Drake Waterfowl blind bags were in the picture. I had one growing up after the Cabelas bag (not on the list) was too destroyed to bring out. The design of their 2.0 version has not changed much from the original, it is a solid bag and if you’re looking for a classic bag with moderate durability, give this bag a look. I will say, this sits at number 5 due to the quality over the past years, I have an original first version and it is still holding strong; however, the newer model is torn and fraying apart after one or two hunts. Nonetheless, not a bad bag!

In conclusion I will say, this list was one of the toughest ones to make because all of these selections are solid bags with one being slightly better. Every hunter needs a bag or pack to move his/her gear to and from the truck or house to the blind or boat. As always, choose the pack that will serve you best for your environment, don’t fall victim to brand names, if you choose to run a Walmart plastic bag that you spray painted, do it! Be resourceful and enjoy the experience!
