The G.O.A.T. of dog training whistles, this is my personal favorite. Such a simple design with no real flair to it, the Dallesasse whistle has two sizes, a 3 inch and 5 inch, personally the 5 inch is the way to go as its reach and overall commanding sound is unmatched. If you think of a dog training whistle sound…this is what my mind goes to every single time! A pealess whistle with a durable shell, you cannot beat this whistle… Grade A+

2: Gunners Up! Mega Whistle
A mega close second pick for this list, I have used this whistle before and I love it all the same as our number 1 pick. Bringing the same decibel level and commanding nature to its sound, the Gunners Up! whistle is a solid whistle for any gun dog trainer. The only downfall I had with this whistle in the field is the sound enhancing shell, it snapped on both whistles I used from this company… Grade A-

3: SportDOG Mega Pealess Whistle - “The Answer”
“High, shrill, penetrating tone for the most demanding conditions in competition or hunting.” (Gun Dog Supply, 2023)I have had really good experiences with this whistle in particular. It comes in at number three on our list because it has a hunter orange colored shell and its reach is decent but not compared to the #1 and #2 selections. A solid mid-range whistle with a pealess design… Grade B+

4: SportDOG Mega Roy Gonia Special Whistle with Pea
This whistle is a spitting image to the number 3 selection on our list. The downfall of this whistle is as you read in the title… the dreaded pea. If you could not tell by now, a pealess whistle is far superior for the demand handlers put on it especially in a hunting environment. A pea-whistle will freeze in colder climates when it is wet from water splashes or saliva. The whistle (when dry) is again, a great mid-range whistle for the price! Grade B-

5: SportDOG Roy Gonia "Special" PEA-LESS Dog Whistle
Now wait a minute, didn't we just see this? You’re not wrong; however, this version is NOT equipped with a sound enhancing shell. For years I often wondered why anyone working dogs in this sense would select this whistle. This is my ultimate back-up/glove box whistle for my dog-rig. It takes up minimal space for a pealess whistle and for the price, it is never a bad idea to toss a few where you might forget your primary…blind bags, glovebox, jackets, etc.

In conclusion, the whistle often selects the handler, as insane as that sounds, we choose what works best for US, I had to get through picks 2-5 before I found pick #1 and I’ve been hooked ever since. The biggest things to consider when selecting or testing out a whistle either on or off this list is whether or not it serves the purpose for which you are using it for. When you find the answer to that question, hook it on a trusty lanyard and never take it off!
